Michael L. Phillips Memorial Basketball Court Dedication
We invite you to the “The Michael L. Phillips Memorial Basketball Court” dedication at the Lost Creek Grove, on September 18, 2021 at 11 a.m. in honor of long-time community leader, beloved family member and Indiana State University student advocate Michael (Mike) L. Phillips. The ceremony will begin with a tribute to Mike with remarks from family and friends. Light refreshments will be served.
Terre Haute community leaders, family and friends provided funding for the project. The three-year planning process resulted in an innovative court tile system, which is a 49’6 x 30’11” durable and shock absorbing surface that reduces fatigue.
Many family members have cherished memories of Mike at The Grove. He made games the highlight of all family gatherings. Not only were they fun for all ages but his encouragement generated lots of laughter and created lasting memories.
“Dad was a loving and giving individual who cared about his family and his community,” Marc Phillips said reflecting on his father’s life. “He spent his time on Earth trying to make it a better place. It was important for my family to do this project because we felt it was a great way to remember my dad while also giving back to the community.”
